Speech and language therapy consultation
What does a speech and language therapy consultation involve?
A speech and language therapy consultation is the first step towards gaining a better understanding of a child’s speech and communication development.
During the appointment, the speech and language therapist conducts a detailed assessment of the child’s development and communication skills. This makes it possible to determine whether the child’s development is progressing normally and what kind of support might be helpful. Parents are also given specific advice that they can put into practice on a daily basis.

Get effective help at the Dialog Therapy Centre
Since 2006, we have been providing support to children and young people, as well as their parents and legal guardians. In particular, we offer support in the areas of diagnosis, therapy, psychoeducation and counselling.
How should I prepare?
It is a good idea to bring along information about your child’s development, their health and any previous consultations or treatments they may have had to the appointment.
With younger children, it’s a good idea to explain in simple terms that they’re going to meet someone who will play with them and have a chat.
What does a consultation involve?
During the session, the speech and language therapist discusses the child’s development and day-to-day functioning with the parents. They then observe the child’s communication, speech and comprehension, using methods appropriate to the child’s age, often through play.
On this basis, the specialist assesses whether the child’s development is progressing normally and in which areas the child may need support. After the appointment, parents are given guidance on the next steps and possible forms of support.

The Pick & Up Scheme
We’ll bring your child to and from nursery.
The carer takes them to their therapy session and brings them back, all within the nursery’s opening hours. This
means the therapy fits into a day that’s already planned,
so you don’t have to take time off work or organise your afternoon around travel arrangements.
