2 diagnostic appointments 500 zł
Step 0: Before the diagnosis

Pre-diagnostic consultation with a parent

We begin every diagnostic process with a pre-diagnostic consultation. This is an opportunity to take a detailed medical history and plan subsequent appointments with the child. The pre-diagnostic consultation is charged separately and is not included in the price of the diagnostic package.

Meeting

Initial assessment appointment

about 1 hour
Clinical observation in the sensory integration room

The therapist observes the child whilst they engage in free and guided activities in a room equipped with therapeutic equipment. We assess how the child responds to various types of stimuli: touch, movement, gravity and sound. The parent may be present at all times, which often helps the child to feel safe and at ease.

Meeting

Initial assessment appointment

about 1 hour
Clinical observation and medical history

The therapist observes the child during a structured activity in the sensory integration room. We assess their responses to stimuli, motor planning, balance and tactile processing. The assessor may ask a teacher or form tutor to complete a questionnaire in order to gain an understanding of how the child functions in a school setting.

Standardised sensory integration tests

We carry out standardised tests to assess sensory processing and motor functions. These are tools recommended for the diagnosis of sensory integration, which provide an objective picture of a child’s functioning based on age-related norms, rather than on subjective assessment.

Meeting

Overview of the diagnosis

about 1 hour
Written report containing recommendations

We discuss the results with the parent and answer any questions they may have. We provide a written report setting out our conclusions and specific recommendations for work at home and at school, as well as advice on further support measures.

Children with sensory processing difficulties may react to their surroundings in unusual ways;
for example, they may be very sensitive to sounds or touch, or, conversely,
intensely seek out stimuli (movement, pressure, sensations). During the assessment, we observe
how the child perceives and organises sensory information in their day-to-day life.

Sense 1

Touch

We check how the child reacts to various tactile stimuli, such as a light touch, pressure or different textures.

Sense 2

Balance and movement

We observe reactions to movement (rocking, turning) and the ability to maintain balance in various body positions.

Sense 3

Body awareness (proprioception)

We assess the way in which a child perceives information from their muscles and joints – in other words, how they sense their body and its position in space.

Sense 4

Sight

We assess how a child processes visual information and how they integrate it with their other senses in everyday situations.

Sense 5

Hearing

We are observing reactions to sounds of varying intensity and how these are processed in a multi-stimulus environment.

The Sixth Sense

Taste and smell

We would like to draw your attention to any sensitivity to or aversion towards certain flavours, smells and textures of food.

Suspended therapeutic accessories

Swings, hammocks, a rotating board, a suspended platform, climbing frames and ropes, all fitted as part of a system that allows for complete flexibility.

The motor and proprioceptive zone

An obstacle course, mats, barrels, trampolines and heavy equipment for developing proprioception and movement planning.

Snoezelen Room

A separate room with visual, auditory and tactile stimuli for calming or stimulating the nervous system.

Resources for working with stimuli

Hundreds of textures, shapes and sensory aids. Every child will find a challenge suited to their level.

Swings

Sensory Integration Therapy

Individual sessions in a specialised room. Each activity has a therapeutic aim tailored to the child’s sensory profile.

Hand therapy

Support for fine motor skills, preparation for writing and improvement of manual dexterity in children with difficulties in this area.

Sensory Integration and Physiotherapy

Combining sensory integration with paediatric physiotherapy when the difficulties also involve muscle tension or posture.

Sensory diet

A personalised plan of sensory activities to be carried out at home between sessions, developed in consultation with a therapist.

Snoezelen Room

Sessions in the Snoezelen room, incorporating visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic stimuli, as a complement to therapy.

Support for parents

Parenting advice, parenting skills training and family therapy, when difficulties are affecting day-to-day relationships at home.

Standardised diagnostic tools

We use only the tests and observation methods recommended for the assessment of sensory integration. Our conclusions are based on data and age-specific norms, not on subjective impressions derived from a single observation.

Comprehensive diagnostics

When a sensory integration assessment indicates the need for a broader approach, at Dialog you have access to a psychologist, a psychiatrist, a neurologist and a speech and language therapist. There’s no need to look for other specialists.

High standard of fittings and fixtures

Our clinics and treatment rooms are equipped with top-quality equipment for SI diagnosis and therapy. We provide children with a safe, modern and stimulating environment, which directly contributes to the accuracy of the assessment.

A team of experienced specialists

An experienced diagnostician guarantees a thorough and reliable diagnosis. Our team consists of carefully selected SI therapists with many years’ experience.

Hyperactivity – symptoms, causes and ways of coping

Hyperactivity is a term that is cropping up more and more frequently in discussions about the mental health of children, young people and adults. It is sometimes equated solely with an excess of energy, but in reality it is a far more complex phenomenon. It can affect emotions, behaviour, concentration and day-to-day functioning at home, […]

Sensory overload – symptoms, causes and ways of coping

Sensory overload is a condition in which the nervous system receives more stimuli than it is able to process effectively. It can affect anyone, but is particularly common amongst highly sensitive people, those with neurodiversity, and those living under chronic stress. It manifests itself both physically and mentally, affecting day-to-day functioning, relationships and well-being. In […]

We offer two separate assessment packages. The Sensory Integration Assessment for Young Children is designed for children aged 1 to 4 and comprises 2 sessions (500 zł). The Sensory Integration Assessment is designed for children over the age of 4 and adolescents, and comprises 3 sessions (800 zł). A pre-assessment consultation, costing 250 zł, is added to both packages.
The diagnosis for a young child (aged 1 to 4) is based mainly on clinical observation in the therapy room and a discussion with the parent, as very young children are unable to complete standardised tests. It involves two sessions and costs 500 zł. The assessment for children over 4 years of age is supplemented by standardised tests evaluating sensory processing and motor functions based on age-related norms. It comprises 3 sessions and costs 800 zł. Both packages conclude with a discussion of the results with the parent and the provision of written recommendations.
Yes. The parent plays an active role throughout the entire process, both during the initial consultation and at the diagnostic sessions. In the case of young children, the parent’s presence is standard practice for the duration of the appointment. For older children, the approach is agreed on a case-by-case basis with the therapist. The debriefing session always takes place with the parent, who is given ample time to ask any questions.
It depends on the package. When diagnosing children over the age of 4, we use standardised tests to assess sensory processing and motor functions based on age-specific norms, supplemented by clinical observation and a consultation with the parent. In the assessment of very young children (aged 1 to 4), clinical observation in a therapeutic setting is the primary method, as standardised tests are not suitable for this age group. In both cases, conclusions are based on methodological data rather than on a single subjective impression.
No. At the Dialog Centre for Children and Families, we do not require a referral. All you need to do is book an appointment by telephone or via the patient portal. If you already have reports from nursery, school or other specialists, it’s a good idea to bring them to your first appointment, as they help us to plan the diagnostic process more effectively.
Sensory processing difficulties often co-occur with other areas requiring support. If, during a sensory integration assessment, it becomes apparent that a broader perspective is needed, at the Dialog Centre for Children and Families you have access to psychologists specialising in ADHD and autism spectrum disorder assessments, as well as a psychiatrist, a neurologist and a speech and language therapist. These specialists can collaborate on a single case file for the child, without the need to seek out other services.
The effects vary in how quickly they become apparent. Some are noticeable quite quickly, after just a few sessions – for example, a child may start to tolerate certain textures better or react more calmly to being touched. Other changes are more subtle and become apparent over time at nursery or school, such as improved concentration or better coordination. The therapist regularly discusses progress with the parent. Most treatment courses comprise between 10 and 20 sessions, after which we jointly assess the need to continue.
