Speech and language therapy using ENMOT electrostimulation

Electro-neuro-mobilisation of the neuromuscular system (ENMOT) is a modern method that supports speech and language therapy, used to improve the functioning of the facial, oral and pharyngeal muscles.

It involves the use of gentle electrostimulation, which helps to activate and strengthen the muscles responsible for speech, swallowing and other functions of the articulatory system.

ENMOT complements traditional speech and language therapy and can help patients make faster and more effective progress.

Agreements

ENMOT, or electro-neuro-mobilisation of the facial area, is a modern and safe stimulation method used to support speech and language therapy.

It is used with children who have a range of difficulties relating to orofacial functions, including:

  • difficulty swallowing
  • articulation disorders
  • reduced symmetry and facial muscle function
  • dysarthric difficulties
  • excessive salivation
  • reduced muscle tone

It can also be used as a form of support for difficulties arising from past injuries or neurological conditions.

It is particularly useful for people with rare genetic syndromes (e.g. SMA, SLA, DMD, SCA, Moebius syndrome, Charge syndrome, Treacher Collins syndrome), as well as for people with cleft palates, MPDz and muscle tone disorders.

Electro-neuromobilisation is also used for children with difficulties relating to pronunciation and oral motor function. It is particularly helpful for children who:

• breathe through their mouths•
find it difficult to position their tongue correctly at
rest• experience difficulty when swallowing and speaking

The benefits of ENMOT therapy may include:

• improved muscle control in the face and neck, resulting in clearer
speech• support for
swallowing function• increased strength and range of motion in the muscles targeted by the therapy

We understand that discussions about a child’s speech development and communication difficulties require care, a calm approach and great sensitivity.

That is why, at the Dialog Centre for Children and Families, consultations are conducted by experienced speech and language therapists and neuro-speech therapists who work with children and young people. Our specialists possess the relevant qualifications and clinical experience, and join the team following a multi-stage recruitment process.
