Workshops for parents and carers of children on the autism spectrum (ASD) are sessions designed to help you better understand how your child functions and find approaches tailored to their needs.

They also provide a space to organise one’s knowledge, ask questions and compare one’s own experiences with the perspectives of a specialist and other parents facing similar challenges.

During the sessions, participants learn specific strategies to support their child’s development and day-to-day functioning, as well as how to respond to difficult situations in a more predictable and calm manner.

During the workshops, we address the issues that most frequently arise in the everyday lives of families with children on the spectrum. We take a practical approach, drawing on real-life situations and parents’ questions.

During the workshops, we discuss, amongst other things:

  • the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder and what it entails – how to understand it and what it means for the child and the whole family
  • how a child on the spectrum functions, how they experience emotions and how they respond to their surroundings
  • communication with your child and ways to support it in everyday situations
  • parenting strategies, setting boundaries and organising the day
  • Challenging behaviour – possible causes and ways of responding
  • the child’s adjustment to nursery and school, and cooperation with these institutions
  • developing independence and building social skills
  • forms of therapeutic and specialist support available
  • the role of a parent and looking after one’s own well-being in the demands of everyday life

The workshops combine theory with practice. They provide a space where you can organise your thoughts, take a closer look at your situation and seek solutions that make sense in everyday life.

The workshops take the form of group sessions for parents and carers, led by a specialist who works with children and families. We work on specific situations from everyday life, combining knowledge with a practical approach.

During the sessions, we focus on understanding how a child on the spectrum functions and on how to apply this knowledge to everyday activities. We discuss ways of responding, communicating and organising the child’s environment so that it is more predictable and supportive for them.

It is also a space for asking questions and comparing one’s own experiences with the perspectives of other parents and the facilitator. This makes it easier to organise one’s knowledge and find solutions that make sense in a specific family situation.

Upon completion of the workshop, participants receive a certificate confirming their attendance.
During the workshop, we discuss, amongst other things:

The aim of the workshops is to help parents and carers better understand children on the autism spectrum and respond more effectively in everyday situations.

During the sessions, participants will:

  • enhance understanding of how children on the autism spectrum function
  • they will learn strategies and approaches tailored to the child’s actual needs
  • they learn how to build relationships and communicate on the basis of greater understanding
  • are working on how to respond to difficult emotional and behavioural situations
  • have a space to share experiences and meet other parents in a similar situation

These workshops help you organise your knowledge and put it into practice in your everyday life.
During the workshops, we discuss, amongst other things:

The workshops are aimed at parents and carers of children on the autism spectrum, as well as those who support them in their development on a day-to-day basis, including teachers and specialists.

This is an opportunity both for those who are just beginning their journey following a diagnosis and are trying to understand what it means in practice, and for those who already have some experience but are looking to organise their knowledge and find new approaches.

During the workshops, we address issues that actually arise in everyday life. We focus on how to better understand the child, communicate with them and respond in situations that can be difficult or stressful.

The programme is flexible and tailored to the participants, meaning it benefits both those who need the basics and those who wish to deepen their knowledge and skills.

Autism spectrum assessment – a step-by-step guide to diagnosis

Autism is a complex issue, and the subject is attracting increasing interest amongst both parents and professionals working with children and adults. More and more children are being referred to specialist clinics on the suspicion that their development is different, with the child’s difficulties being particularly evident in social interactions, communication or behavioural patterns. This […]

What rules out Asperger’s syndrome – factors in the differential diagnosis

Asperger’s syndrome – an autism spectrum disorder Asperger’s syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder classified within the autism spectrum, characterised by a different pattern of social and communicative development. It is not a disease in the medical sense, but rather a different pattern of brain development. The term derives from the name of the Austrian paediatrician […]

ADHD and autism – similarities and differences in functioning

Autism and ADHD are two neurodevelopmental disorders which, despite having different diagnostic criteria, can often occur together and co-occur in the same person. Modern diagnosis and in-depth assessment are making it increasingly possible to distinguish between their characteristic symptoms and to identify instances where they may occur together or overlap in the functioning of children […]

A child’s development on the spectrum and the day-to-day functioning of the whole family are areas that require careful and thoughtful support.

At the DIALOG Centre for Children and Families, the workshops are led by specialists who work with children on the autism spectrum and their families. These are people who combine knowledge with practical experience and understand the challenges parents face on a daily basis.

We are keen not only to impart knowledge, but also to ensure that it can be put to practical use in real-life situations. That is why we work with specific examples and seek solutions tailored to each family.
