FAQ
What is family psychotherapy?
Family psychotherapy is a form of therapy aimed at helping to resolve family problems and conflicts and rebuild bonds between family members. During family therapy, a specialist helps to identify the sources of the crisis and develop effective ways of dealing with them. The series of sessions involves the active participation of parents, children and the therapist, which helps to improve communication and strengthen family relationships.
What does family therapy involve?
It is, first and foremost, a discussion between family members and a therapist about their relationships. Everything is based on the premise that the family is an interconnected system. If just one member of the household is struggling with a problem, this can have a negative impact on their loved ones, which in turn can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts. The overarching aim of family therapy is to overcome existing difficulties by pinpointing the specific source of the conflict, identifying it, and working together to resolve it.
When is family therapy needed?
Family therapy helps to build harmonious relationships within the family, particularly when there is a great deal of conflict amongst family members, when parents and children do not get on with one another, or when the mother and father are experiencing difficulties with bringing up their children. This type of therapy is particularly recommended in situations where a family is going through a crisis caused by overwhelming and traumatic events. These may include, for example, the death of a family member, the loss of a job, a change of environment, and many other situations. We should not downplay any of these situations or remain indifferent to them. If we feel the need for external support and help, it is worth contacting the specialists at the Family Therapy Centre.
